Last week’s episode kicked off the much-awaited season 2 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and it was nice to see Rimuru and the gang back for more adventures. Several characters were introduced, culminating in a fight that ended with cliffhanger.

Episode 2 begins with the continuation of the battle between Shion and Youm against Grucius and Suphia. Once again, the fight itself is spectacular, though it turned out to be more of a test on Carillon’s part to determine Jura’s worthiness as an ally. Thankfully, the nation passed thanks to Shion and Youm’s display of their strength, with a little bit from Rimuru which left everyone stunned.

Most of the rest of this episode is then devoted to the interactions between Rimuru and Eurazania’s delegates. But what makes this interesting is how many of Rimuru’s allies could perform their duties on their own without much assistance from him, from trade negotiations to technological exchange. It displays why the Jura Tempest Alliance is a rising power already, and one that piqued Carillon’s interest.

But despite that, Jura’s territory is not perfect. There’s not much space for agriculture, which balances their already strong economy, and it is a small piece of worldbuilding that was rarely present in most nation-building stories.

The final scene provides an interesting setup to the greater conflict in this season as Clayman begins to move by deploying his servant, Myulan. Overall, this episode is a nice bridge to the main plot of this arc, featuring a nice fight scene and some tidbits of worldbuilding.

A solid 8/10.
