Developing and delivering equitable outcomes

Equity is our primary institutional value. We are committed to developing and nurturing a diverse community that delivers equitable outcomes across all areas of university activity, as well as promoting equity through the impact of our activities in local, national and international communities. Through our strategic vision to become the first-choice university for enterprise and equity by 2035, we seek to embed fairness, inclusion and opportunity across all that we do. Central to this is our commitment to deliver an educational and broader student experience that empowers students to become confident agents of change. Our ambition is underpinned by a whole-institution approach that ensures equality of opportunity is embedded in teaching, support, and student engagement, enabling all learners, regardless of background, to realise their potential and succeed. Our commitment is operationalised in part through our Office for Students (OfS) approved Access and Participation Plan (APP) as well as our work with Advance HE in achieving various equality charter awards - Equality charters and benchmarking. We currently hold Silver awards for Athena Swan and Race Equality.
